Older dogs and cats often suffer from heart failure. The hawthorn extract and L-carnitine in Canina ^® HERZ VITAL effectively stabilize and strengthen heart function. Hawthorn (Crataegus) has long been used successfully in human medicine as a supporting measure for chronic heart failure.

The flavonoids and procyanidins contained in hawthorn support the heart muscle.

L-Carnitine:
Improves the energy supply to the heart and skeletal muscles, increasing cardiac muscle strength. It promotes your dog’s vitality, motivation, and well-being.

Studies with performance dogs have shown a significant improvement in performance parameters with the addition of L-carnitine, particularly in newborns whose body synthesis is still limited, but also in animals subjected to increased demands. As early as 1988, dogs with heart problems were examined. Of 20 animals, 7 had reduced L-carnitine levels in their heart muscle tissue. These dogs were successfully treated with oral L-carnitine supplementation. After discontinuation of the supplement, the heart muscle problems recurred.

Effects of an adequate L-carnitine supply:

Note: Feed analyses of various commercial dog foods revealed strikingly low L-carnitine levels compared to pure meat diets. The carnitine content of these ready-to-eat foods was more than 10 times lower than that of pure meat. In fact, L-carnitine is less well absorbed by the kidneys of dogs than in non-carnivorous animals. Higher excretion of vital L-carnitine in pets can therefore lead to a life-threatening deficiency compared to wild animals. For this reason, Canina® HERZ-VITAL is ^strongly recommended , regardless of the feed. It is recommended to consult your veterinarian before feeding or extending the feeding period.
